Introduction

FlashGet, a product from AmazeSoft, is an all-round download manager for Windows 95/98/ME, Windows NT 4.0 ,Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows 2003. The program is specifically designed to aid users in downloading files on a daily basis.

Installation

The FlashGet install process is like most other Windows application installers; giving you a few options on whether to integrate FlashGet into your browsers, create desktop icons and customize the install path etc.

Features

With features thrown at you from every angle, we'll attempt to summarise the key-features of FlashGet:

Auto-Resume

For users (unfortunately) still on a dial-up connection or even an unstable connection, FlashGet has the handy option of resuming broken downloads. In the event of your internet going down it'll automatically resume the download from it's previous point upon your reconnection.

Multiple Connections

FlashGet gives you the option to split downloading of files into chunks and by using multiple connections this can optimize your downloads speeds to their highest capability.

Mirror search

A new (and optional) feature of FlashGet is the ability to search for mirrors of the same file you are downloading. If you choose to enable this option it'll connect to other FlashGet users who have downloaded the same file as you are downloading but from another source.

Queue/Scheduled Downloads

One has the ability to schedule downloads for on-peak/off-peak and practically any other time/date combination, as well as putting downloads in a queue to be downloaded in a specific order.

Limit download speeds

Within FlashGet, one can right-click on a download and set it's maximum download speed giving your bandwidth to other downloads or resources on the computer.

Third-party browser plugins

Both Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox have third-party plugins for FlashGet which allow any downloads that would normally go through the browser, to be sent to FlashGet to deal with.
