Introduction

In 2004 Microsoft took a jump into the home-media software market. Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition allows users to manage their TV shows, films, music and digital photos all from a beautifully-crafted user-interface. This new interface's basic theme was transferred to XP and released in mid-2005.

Installation

Installation requires that you download the new Windows Genuine Advantage plug-in to validate your copy of Windows XP prior to downloading. Once you have downloaded this, it verifies your copy of Windows XP and if successful allows you to download an executable install file which does all the work for you and installs the theme. If the installer fails to enable the theme for you can enable it yourself by doing the following:

  1. Right click on your desktop
  2. Select "Properties" from the context menu
  3. Select "Royale" from the theme-dropdown
  4. Click "Apply"

It may take about a minute to apply the new theme.

Interface

This theme introduces no new features, but themes the interface in the default XP theme fashion. See the image below for how the new taskbar looks:

Conclusion

Visually the theme is very appealing. It makes a welcome change to the default XP themes and adds a new freshness to your desktop experience.
